Lampworking Workshop

Lampworking Workshop

What is a torch?
In the 19th century, beads were worn as necklaces with traditional costumes, complementing festive attire. Today, jewelry is part of everyday life. A torch is an exciting way to work with glass, allowing you to create your own glass beads to match your favorite outfits.

Working with a torch involves heating colored glass rods in a hot flame. As the glass melts, it can be shaped around a metal rod to create beads. Using tools and special colored glass rods, we create more complex shapes and beautiful patterns. Finished beads are placed in a kiln to cool slowly, preventing them from breaking.

Course content
At the beginning of the workshop, we get familiar with the equipment and observe how glass behaves in the flame. We discuss different torch techniques, tools, and safety. We use metal rods and Murano glass rods during the session. Each participant can choose the color of their material. After the instructor demonstrates the basic working principles, each participant gets their own personal torch station to work at.

In the lampworking workshop, you will learn to:

  • Gain experience working with flame and molten glass
  • Improve coordination, as both hands perform different movements simultaneously
  • Make glass beads and add intricate patterns
  • Feel like a true glass artist

Workshop outcome

  • Unique beads in different shapes and colors will be created
  • Depending on personal pace, each participant will make approximately 15–25 beads, which can be turned into a necklace or bracelet
